Doctor takes a fresh path to help in Vietnam
Frank Cobarrubia was a California schoolboy on April 30, 1975, the day the last U.S. Marines left Saigon and the South Vietnamese surrender brought an end to the war in Vietnam.
Today he's a 37-year-old podiatrist. Cobarrubia had a podiatry practice in Everett in the mid-1990s, then moved east of the mountains to Chelan.
"It was heavenly, it's such a magical little town," Cobarrubia said.
But in January, he sold the Chelan practice. He'll soon put his skills as a foot surgeon to use in Southeast Asia.
"Vietnam chose me, in a way," Cobarrubia said by phone from his parents' home in Davis, Calif., where he stayed before leaving earlier this month on an extended trip to Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam
