Land mines leave deadly legacy of war in Vietnam
While in Vietnam this week, President Clinton is expected to step out of the diplomatic parade prepared for him in Hanoi to shake hands with some of the latest and youngest victims of the Vietnam War.
In an event that has connections to the Seattle area, Clinton will meet with a group of Vietnamese children who have been injured by land mines or unexploded ordnance left over from the conflict that ended 25 years ago.
The meeting is designed to draw attention to the destructive legacy of the war that takes the form of millions of remaining pieces of lethal ordnance, which continue to kill or maim innocent children all over Vietnam.
