Get Down To The Nitty Gritty on April 19, 2003
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. – Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Co-founders John McEuen and Jimmy Ibbotson are making an encore appearance in the Northwest for a benefit concert to support the humanitarian mine action work of Clear Path International, Kids First Vietnam & PeaceTrees Vietnam. All three organizations have offices on Bainbridge Island.

The concert, the musicians’ second on the island thanks to promoter, coordinator and fan Wendy Tyner, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, at the Playhouse of the Bainbridge Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $25 in advance; $30 at the door on the day of the event. Proceeds from the event will benefit landmine and bomb accident survivors in Vietnam, Cambodia and on the Thai-Burma border.
The last time McEuen and Ibbotson performed on behalf of Clear Path International was at the Higher Ground in Winooski near Burlington, Vermont. At that concert, they were joined by Phish guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio.
McEuen and Ibbotson have several decades under their belts as founding
members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, creating over 30 albums together and racking up numerous CMA and ACM awards, as well as many Grammy nods. Their walls hold several platinum and gold records from both their efforts with the legendary Will the Circle Be Unbroken albums (vol. I, II, are both platinum) and the current vol. III received two Grammy nominations.
As solo artists they each have several of their own CD releases, and their
highly acclaimed duo set - Stories and Songs - is a perfect example of the magic the bring to the stage as a duo.
After taking their audience down the road to country rock with such classics as “Mr Bojangles,” they dig into the historical aspects of roots country and bluegrass with select material from the three “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” albums and favorites from their Nitty Gritty list of songs. As always, audiences are taken on a journey that leaves them saying the next day to their friends "you should've been there!"
