Fog of War to Screen For CPI on Bainbridge Island, WA
Proceeds from the 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 24 screening of “Fog of War,” Errol Morris’ Oscar-winning documentary about the life of Robert McNamara and his role in the Vietnam War, will benefit the humanitarian work of Bainbridge Island-based Clear Path International.
Thanks to the generosity of the Lynwood Theater, which will donate a substantial portion from each ticket for the show, and Sony Pictures Classics, which will waive the theater’s fee for the screening, the show’s proceeds will support Clear Path’s outreach among landmine accident survivors and their families in central Vietnam. This is the second time Sony Pictures Classics has waived theater fees for this movie in order to benefit the work of Clear Path International. The first was in Manchester, VT on March 5th of this year.
Clear Path International, an independent 501 C 3 nonprofit, has landmine survivor assistance projects in Vietnam, Cambodia and on the Thai-Burma border. Clear Path’s largest humanitarian effort, now in its fourth year, is in the provinces north and south of the former Demilitarized Zone in central Vietnam, once known as McNamara's Line. In this region, where civilians are still killed or injured by unexploded ordnance weekly, Clear Path has helped hundreds of mine survivors with medical and social services.
“This important film brings attention to a chapter in our country’s history from which we continue to learn,” said Imbert Matthee, Clear Path’s president. “What isn’t so well known about the war is that its aftermath also continues in the form of landmine and bomb accidents in central Vietnam almost every week.”
Matthee said Clear Path is “extremely grateful to the Lynwood Theater and Sony Pictures Classics for the opportunity to bring this cause and our work to the attention of island moviegoers.”
Clear Path will have a display of its survivor assistance efforts throughout the film’s run at the Lynwood, which starts on Friday. The film is rated PG-13. Show times include Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 3 p.m., 5:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and 5:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
