Bluegrass & Folk Concert Raises $10K
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND – Bluegrass & Folk legend John McEuen did it again. This time at Grace Episcopal Church with son Nathan and sessions musician Matt Cartonis.
For the third time in five years, McEuen’s virtuous musical talent and recording history packed the house on Bainbridge Island and raised thousands of dollars for humanitarian relief.
Thanks to the tireless work of concert promoter and bluegrass fan Wendy Tyner, the three musicians drew a crowd of nearly 300 to Grace. They played several favorites from McEuen’s repertoire as a founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
But many in the crowd were equally impressed by the emerging talents of his son Nathan, whose pleasing and soulful style captured the evening’s audience.
The proceeds from the concert, which raised nearly $10,000, will be split equally between Clear Path International and the Bainbridge Island Sumatra Tsunami Relief Fund. The two organizations are working together to provide relief to tsunami survivors and CPI is providing ongoing support to victims of landmine accidents in SE Asia.
