Phuc fell into a coma and was rushed to hospital. The mine crushed a kidney and wounded his intestines. His lungs and four fingers were also badly damaged. Worst of all, two fragments perforated his vertebrae, paralysing Phuc’s left side and kept him bedridden for seven years. He underwent six operations. "I felt sad at that time because I was the main bread winner in a six-brother poor family," Phuc recalled. Phuc’s life changed in 2000 when Clear Path International (CPI), an American-based landmine and bomb removal organisation, helped him through its unexploded ordnance (UXO)/landmine accident survivor assistance programme. http://www.cpi.org/news/archives/000437.php James Hathaway 2005-12-30T12:29:43-05:00 Cruel Summer: Bombs of US-Vietnam War Continue to Kill and Maim Quang Tri Province, Vietnam- Cluster bombs and other ordnance left over from the Vietnam War continue to kill and maim... http://www.cpi.org/news/archives/000421.php vietnam James Hathaway 2005-08-23T17:06:11-05:00 Join us for Adopt-a-Minefield's Night of a Thousand Dinners On Thursday, Nov. 3, hosts and their guests all over the world will dedicate a special meal to a good cause.
