Martha
Hathaway
Co-Founder
Born in Chicago, Martha Hathaway found her love for international
work when she first traveled to Asia at age eighteen. Two years later,
she lived in Andhra
Pradesh, India for a year while she researched and wrote a paper on a youth-based
non-governmental organization.
Her professional career started in 1993 with the Japan-America Society of
Washington State, where she served as Program Affairs Assistant for three years.
After departing from the Japan America Society in early 1997, Hathaway worked
for PeaceTrees Vietnam as a program manager and was quickly promoted to Executive
Director. She made frequent trips to Vietnam to manage and implement the activities
of the humanitarian effort. Hathaway graduated with honors in Cultural Anthropology
from the University of Oregon .
Martha now works in Afghanistan with the International Rescue Committee.
