Good afternoon from Capitol Hill.

House and Senate are in session this week, and there continues to be a push by a bipartisan group of Senators for a gun control bill with text of the legislation to be released as early as today. Nearly 100 conservative leaders have signed a letter opposing the compromise:

“The announced framework includes egregious provisions which are all-but-guaranteed to result in widespread violations of Americans’ constitutional rights. In progressive-led states, these provisions could result in de facto partisan, door-to-door weapons confiscation.”

The Supreme Court is also in the news this week as we await the final decision on the Dobbs v. Jackson case that could result in the overturning of Roe v. Wade and remanding the issue of abortion policy back to states.

Unfortunately, after a draft Supreme Court opinion was leaked earlier this year, we have seen a violent campaign being waged by pro-abortion activists against pro-life organizations. Crisis pregnancy centers have been firebombed, churches have been vandalized around the country, and Justice Brett Kavanaugh was almost assassinated.

A group calling itself Jane’s Revenge issued a statement this week declaring “open season” on pro-lifers, promising more violence, encouraging others to commit it, and not “in the form of something so easily cleaned up as fire and graffiti.”

Almost as outrageous as this terrorism itself, though, is the Washington liberal elite’s tacit support for it.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was asked about the fire bombings last week, and she refused to condemn it. The corporate media mostly ignored the arrest of the armed assailant outside Justice Kavanaugh’s home. Washington, D.C. is peppered with flyers calling for riots on a “Night of Rage” if and when Roe is overturned. The Justice Department has only now finally agreed to investigate the escalating violence, after at least 67 crimes have been committed against pro-life organizations.

It’s easy to contrast this reaction to the media and liberal politician frenzied response to the so-called “domestic terrorism” of… parents protesting woke schoolboards.

But in truth, left wing elites aren’t indifferent to violence against pro-lifers. They’re fine with it.

At a 2020 pro-Roe rally outside the Supreme Court, Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer infamously warned:

“I want to tell you, Gorsuch, I want to tell you, Kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.”

Even after the Kavanaugh assassination attempt, Pelosi dismissed any danger and refused to bring a bill to the House floor increasing security for Supreme Court justices. But this is also a pattern. We saw the same thing in 2020 during the BLM riots.

They were the most extensive riots in American history, doing more than $1 billion in damage, but the media called them “mostly peaceful.” Rep. Jerry Nadler, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said the antifa violence in Portland, Oregon was “a myth.” Kamala Harris helped raise bail money for rioters arrested in Minnesota, at least one of whom was subsequently charged with murder.

Left-wing politics has a history of violent extremism. The French Revolution. The Russian Revolution. Communist and fascist terror states around the world. The bombing campaign of the Weather Underground in the 1960s. At bottom, socialism is always tied to violence: “Give us your money and affirm our opinions … or else.

Organized, left-wing violence is already here. It could get worse if our nations leaders don’t take the threat seriously and start taking steps to deescalate.
